Arizona’s Specialty License Plates Sales have exceeded $10 M for the first time ever. During the fiscal year ending June 30, the Arizona Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Division collected $10,617,427 for veterans’ services, families of fallen first responders, cancer research, historic preservation, college scholarships and many other worthy causes.  It was easily the most financially successful period in the history of Arizona’s specialty plates. “The specialty plate program is a real point of pride for Arizona and is a tremendous success,” said Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division Director Eric Jorgensen. “Seeing this kind of continued growth proves Arizonans are both generous and eager to support great causes.” In the past year, three new plates were introduced that commemorate Luke Air Force Base, the Arizona Science Center and the Barrett-Jackson auto auction.  The Arizona State University plate was redesigned and saw a bump in sales over the previous fiscal year. There was also a significant increase in sales of the Route 66 plate that was introduced in 2017. Specialty plates typically cost $25. Of that amount, $17 is committed to the benefiting organization. They are available online and at MVD or Authorized Third Party offices. The specialty plate program was established by state law in 1989 and plates are authorized by the state legislature. For more information about specialty plates including how to order, please visit ServiceArizona.com or azdot.gov/mvd.

NOTES FROM READERS

Opinions expressed by readers are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Commentary running over 400 words is subject to editing. Briefs posts candidate announcements, but does not endorse candidates, nor do we post endorsement statements. - ft.

Eric Johnson’s retirement memo from his Facebook: It is with sadness that I share with you that this December I will be hanging up robe, putting down the gavel and retiring as a Hearing Officer/Judge from the Justice Courts of Arizona. As some of you know, I have Muscular Dystrophy (MD) and with the MD, my body, recently has been, ever so slowly, deteriorating to the point that working as a Hearing Officer/Judge has become very difficult. I was appointed in 2010 by the presiding judge of the county and have been serving ever since. It has truly been an honor to server the people of Arizona in this capacity. Since 2010, I have heard Small Claims cases for 10 different Justices of the Peace through out the county. By this coming December, the number of cases that I will have heard is approximately 400. Editor’s Note: Thank you Eric, for many years of service. - ft

Activist Timmy Schwartz: President Donald Trumps AttachmentsTo protect your privacy, remote images are blocked in this message. Display imagesForgotten Interview with Larry King from 1987. Please circulate this to others! This 30 year old video contains a wealth of secrets to understanding the thinking and the actions of our 45th President, Donald J Trump. May it be forgotten no more, pass it on! In a Sept 2, 1987, interview with CNN's Larry King, Donald Trump says he has no interest in being president and explains why he took out an ad ripping the George H.W. Bush administration. Trump with Larry King

Activist Larry Sorenson: Although it is sad to bring up a topic like this, the victor in the upcoming race for Governor may very well be required to pick an Arizona US Senator. I urge all to consider asking questions of the candidates now specifically about this potentiality.

Activist Frank Carroll: You had me worried for a moment. Glad to hear that you are OK.

Activist Don and Patti Woolley: Frosty, sorry you are having hacker problems.

Activist Cynthia Coleman Thank you to you and John (Strasser) for working so hard to keep the information flowing. Your commitment is appreciated.

AFA Team: Frosty, just in case you don't know how much you mean to conservative Republicans, our readers are emailing us wanting to know where you are and when you will be back.  We miss Briefs, they say.  We say, us, too!  Hope you are back online very soon. For freedom, - The AFA Team

Cirilo De La Fuente, Co/Founder Conservative American Latino Organization: I thank you for all you do.

Activist Art Olivas: You can say that I am down rightdisgusted with the RINOs who run the Az GOP and I am just about to give up on LD27. I have been to HQ. at 24th St. 3 times to get help in my run for PC in LD27. They ask for my name, address, phone # and e-mail followed by a song and dance of Chairman Lines not being in the office but has been working hard for us. When I asked what is he doing? I get no answer. I ask for a walk list for my Precinct. I get walked over to the printer, by some one who knows not how to work it. He tells me he will email the list to me and never does. Now about LD27's meetings. Our Chairman is all most never in attendance most of the time he is out of the US. When I ask where is he? He has business, I think they say in Columbia. If he was not going to come to the meeting, why did LD27 vote for him? I had never heard of him. We are down to about 14 PCs per meeting from about 75-80 per meeting. If that was not bad enough; after all the park parties that I have been against - our treasury has gone down from about $3,500 to $1,600. The LD27 click knows what we have to do but nobody wants to do it. If someone steps up they get no help so they volunteer no more! As to my run for PC in my precinct. When I have asked for help from our Chairman he says he will get back to me but never does. No walk list from him. This is the way it is. Now I ask how can we fix our party if we can't fix our own LDs? I have asked you to stop following lobbyist and endorsers, most are looking out for themselves not for you! You have to get off you’re a** and research for your self, if care to save you a**. When you follow like a puppy you will be treated worse then  a dog! You can take that to the bank. I say what I mean and I mean what I say. el tudy Mexican bandit.

Blaze Baggs: I've noticed the Briefs haven't been updated in some time. I hope this is a planned sabbatical and not a result of unseen circumstances. Regardless, you are in my thoughts and prayers for all that you do for the cause. Also wanted to flag an op-ed penned by Gov. Ducey yesterday: Arizona Governor Doug Ducey: Calls to abolish ICE are wrong and reckless abolish-ice-immigration-customs-enforcement-reckless-arizona-governor-doug-ducey-column Thanks for all that you do. DONATE TO BENNETT: MAKE ARIZONA GREAT AGAIN

Conservatives: Are you serious about wanting an alternative in the race for governor? If you’re waiting for the last minute--this is it! Time is critical. Here are the addresses to go to give a $5 contribution to Ken Bennett for governor in his campaign against the Ice Cream Man. Do it now! To pay online: KEN BENNETT FOR GOVERNOR OR Secretary of State Website To download the form:

Sure, it’s always an uphill battle whenever you run against an incumbent with a boatload of money and an improving economy. But some things are worth challenging and fighting for.

As well as the state is doing, we can do better. Doug Ducey has shown that he’s either not willing or not capable of doing what’s necessary to truly Make Arizona Great Again. While President Donald Trump gave us a huge tax cut, Ducey gave us a tax increase, raising our Vehicle License Tax by almost $150 Million. He quickly caved to the radical #RedforEd crowd allowing extremists to take control of the education funding narrative. Is he better than anyone or anything the Democrats are proposing? Yes, of course, but that’s a very low bar and Arizona can do better--much better.

Yes, Bennett is using Arizona’s so-called “Clean Elections,” something we here at American Post-Gazette abhor. But those are the rules of the game being played right now and until we can change those rules we need to do our best to use the rules to our advantage. Do yourself and Arizona a favor--send Bennett a $5 donation this week and let’s Make Arizona Great Again. - A. Hamilton

CANDIDATE COMMENTARY

Editor’s Note: Please keep opinion pieces to 400 words. If extended, they will be subject to editing. Opinions expressed below are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Briefs does not endorse candidates. – ft

Supt of Public Instruction candidate Bob Branch: For the first time in generations, the voters in our Great State will have the option to elect a True Educator, a Proven Leader, a Business Leader, and Veteran Dr. Bob Branch, to the highest Executive Office in Education for the State of Arizona.  The voters are finally given a choice to get a qualified candidate in office for this position instead of a career politician. President Trump has given us the road map to “Make America Great Again,” and it is simple to follow: elect or hire the most qualified person for the job; not the career politician. In fact, President Trump told us to Drain the Swamp!” You followed that roadmap, and thanks to you, “The Educator of Educators” Dr. Bob Branch is on the ballot.
I have been teaching teachers, at the doctoral level, the leadership skills, styles, and best practices needed to run large organizations and school systems. I have taught many of our school superintendents and thousands of our teachers. I currently teach at the #1 and #2 Christian Universities in the World (Grand Canyon University and Liberty University). My unparalleled academic administrative expertise includes:  Campus Director, Dean of Education, Dean of Technology, Chair of the School of Business and Information Technology, and Content Chair for Doctorate of Management in Information System Technology.
Thanks to you, the campaign to “Dismantle the U.S. Department of Education” and to “Make Education Great Again” is the campaign to beat in this election. I am ready to take the helm of the Arizona Department of Education and steer us on course to “Make Education Great Again.” Since I am not a career politician, I am relying on great people like you to get behind me and support this campaign. We need to get the message out to everyone, and that takes money. This will help with more signs, literature, and advertising to help to get this important message out to voters so that they make the right choice in this election by voting for me, Dr. Bob Branch. Please, if you can, Contribute $35, $50, $250 or more to this campaign to “Make Education Great Again. Your dollars will make a very important impact in helping me make a difference for our children’s future. Your help and support is needed and deeply appreciated.

Frank Riggs, Supt of Public Instruction candidate: I am strongly opposed to the “InvestInEd” ballot initiative to raise taxes. As a former CEO, I know the initiative is really a tax increase on entrepreneurs and job creators, and on capital formation and investment. I believe it would harm and destabilize our state's economy and lead to loss of businesses and jobs. That, in turn, would reduce tax revenues over the long haul for all state government services, including K-12 education, the largest item in the state budget. This initiative is pushed by the highly-partisan political operatives behind the “RedForEd” movement. They come from the far-left, "socialist" (Bernie Sanders) wing of the Democratic Party that fervently believes in redistribution of wealth as the solution to societal challenges. They used the second week of the teacher walkout/strike to gather signatures for “InvestInEd” at the Capitol while inconveniencing and doing a disservice to many Arizona families with school-age children. Yet I haven’t heard any of the “InvestInEd” promoters decry the recent state standardized test results showing 56% of third-graders aren't minimally proficient in reading, the foundation of all learning.

The people so passionate about “InvestInEd” all have one thing in common: they want to increase individual income taxes but decrease parental school choice. Their constant refrain is “we don't want our tax dollars" going to support charter schools and private school scholarships. Any increase in funding for K-12 education should also embrace greater accountability, and the robust competition and school choice we have in Arizona. I hope you’ll help me fight the “InvestInEd" tax increase. It’s bad for Arizona, bad for our economy and bad for education!

Incumbent Gov Doug Ducey: Stories around the state are talking about Governor Doug Ducey's efforts to improve border security and stop dangerous traffickers. That's because on Wednesday, Governor Ducey was joined by law enforcement officials to highlight the success of Arizona's Border Strike Force. The governor launched the Border Strike Force 3 years ago. It brings together U.S. Border Patrol, State Troopers, and County Sheriffs. Their mission? Target and stop drug cartels and human traffickers coming across the southern border. “The people of Arizona have had enough,” Governor Ducey said. “We will find you, we will stop you, and we will bring you to justice.” Arizona's Border Strike Force efforts have paid off. Strike Force operations have apprehended more than 3,000 people. They have also seized over 173,000 rounds of ammunition and more than 30 tons of illegal drugs, including 17.2 million hits of heroin and enough fentanyl to kill over 11 million Americans.Governor Ducey has announced a $2.9 million expansion of the Border Strike Force to build on this success. Governor Ducey's budget this year will add 12 new DPS troopers on the Border Strike Force. “The governor says the new dollars will arrive this month, bringing them closer to achieving the ultimate goal of having 24/7 coverage in areas where it's needed,” News 4 Tucson reported Governor Ducey is expanding the Border Strike Force to secure Arizona's border, but we need your help to spread the word about his efforts. Please forward this email to family and friends or share the video on Facebook. - Team Ducey

ELECTED OFFICIALS COMMENTARY

Congressional Western Caucus Chairman Rep. Paul A. Gosar after H.R. 6147, the Department of the Interior, Environment, Financial Services, and General Government Appropriations Act of 2019, passed the House of Representatives: Gosar stated, “I applaud the good work of Members of the Western Caucus who were instrumental in passing an Interior Appropriations Bill that includes our priorities and yields significant benefits for local communities. This important legislation streamlines and improves multiple processes within public land management agencies and reverses numerous burdensome regulations from the Obama Administration, including the job-killing Waters of the United States Rule (WOTUS). WOTUS adversely affects normal farming practices, places massive swaths of land and water under the control of the federal government, and tramples on state water rights. I am extremely proud of the Caucus for getting our WOTUS repeal language and a plethora of other priorities through the House.” This bill contains numerous provisions that are important to the Western Caucus including:

·         Repealing the Obama Administration’s Waters of the United States Rule (WOTUS).

·         Delisting gray wolves range-wide as well as delisting of Great Lakes and Wyoming gray wolves.

·         $500 million for “Payments In Lieu of Taxes” (PILT) program.

·         $3.9 billion for wildland firefighting and prevention programs.

·         Providing funds to combat the bark beetle epidemic that is devastating forests throughout the United States.

·         The prevention of federal land closures for Hunting, Fishing, and Recreational Shooting.

This appropriations bill provides designated funding for the Department of the Interior, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Forest Service, and several independent agencies.

U.S. Representative Paul A. Gosar and Yavapai County Supervisor Randy Garrison testified on the importance of the bipartisan Cottonwood Land Exchange Act in the House Committee on Natural Resources Subcommittee on Federal Lands.)

Two Gosar Sponsored Bills Unanimously Pass House Resources Committee: Yesterday, the House Committee on Natural Resources unanimously passed two bipartisan bills sponsored by Gosar, D.D.S H.R. 6146, the Cottonwood Land Exchange Act and H.R. 5556, the Environmental Compliance Cost Transparency Act. H.R 6146 , is bipartisan legislation that authorizes the conveyance of 80 acres of Coconino National Forest land to Yavapai County, Arizona in exchange for 369 acres of County land that will be conveyed to the U.S. Forest Service. Gosar stated, “The bipartisan Cottonwood Land Exchange consolidates multiple checkerboards of land at the request of local stakeholders. After many years of collaboration with Yavapai County officials, community leaders, students, parents and the Forest Service, we have found a common sense, locally-driven solution that allows for significant improvements at a high-traffic county park and makes the most efficient use of our land for the benefit of the people of Arizona. H.R. 6146 is good for the County, good for the Forest Service, good for local species and good for families that like parks. I am extremely grateful to Yavapai Supervisor Randy Garrison for making the trip to testify on the bill yesterday and can’t thank the County enough for all their help with this legislation. HR 5556, Environmental Compliance Cost Transparency Act requires federal agencies active in the wholesale power business to disclose the costs of environmental compliance to their customers.“Power customers deserve to be taken out of the dark when it comes to costly environmental laws and policies,” said Gosar. “Right now, in the Pacific Northwest, 30% of the rates are estimated to be related to environmental costs. In Arizona, the Glen Canyon Dam flows are estimated to cost customers up to $50 million annually due to foregone power. More transparency in relation to costs is always a good thing.  I’m pleased to see H.R. 5556 pass Committee today with strong bipartisan support.” HR 5556, Environmental Compliance Cost Transparency Act  requires the agencies, known as the Power Marketing Administrations (PMAs), responsible for marketing and delivering power from federal projects like the Hoover Dam, to report to power customers the direct and indirect costs associated with any Federal environmental laws impacting the conservation of fish and wildlife in their monthly billing statements. Direct costs associated with compliance include costs related to environmental studies, capital, operations, maintenance, and staffing. Indirect costs would include forgone generation and replacement power costs. Congressman Gosar’s legislation does not repeal or change a single environmental law; it simply requires much needed transparency that is long overdue. Text HERE. The bill has 16 original bipartisan cosponsors including Arizona CD5 Andy Biggs. The Environmental Compliance Cost Transparency Act is endorsed by the Grand Canyon State Electric Cooperative Association, the Irrigation and Electrical Districts Association of Arizona and the Colorado River Energy Distributors Association.

ELECTED OFFICIALS COMMENTARY

Donald Trump Challenged Status Quo During Helsinki Summit With Putin: Rep. Andy Biggs

Congressman Biggs Votes to Supports ICE Officers: “ICE agents daily put their lives on the line in protection of Americans around the country. Congress must give them the resources they require to do their jobs, instead of partisan attacks from Democrats. I am grateful for these men and women who help maintain the security of Americans.”

Congressman Paul Gosar: ICE is the Price We Pay - Earlier this week, House Democrats introduced legislation to abolish the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Check out my op-ed in the Washington Examiner to find out why we can't afford to lose ICE. Click here to read more

Congresswoman Martha McSally: Prioritizing Arizona’s Election Security - Last week, I questioned the Department of Homeland Security's Under Secretary for the National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD) Christopher Krebs about the security of Arizona’s election infrastructure. Krebs is in charge of the NPPD, which works to protect and enhance our nation’s physical and cyberspace security. I asked what the NPPD had learned from the reported hack into an Arizona voter registration system in 2016. For years, foreign adversaries, like Russia, have been trying to undermine America’s democratic institutions and attack critical infrastructure. Click HERE to watch our full exchange.

Gov Doug Ducey: To help reduce smuggling Arizona Department of Transportation officers at commercial ports of entry in eastern and western Arizona are using the agency’s first K-9 units. Between December and May, the two K-9 units, based at the Interstate 10 Ehrenberg Port of Entry near California and the Interstate 40 Sanders Port of Entry near New Mexico, have helped officers seize in excess of 350 pounds of marijuana, 600 vials of hash oil and $90,000 in illicit bulk currency. At the I-40 Topock Port of Entry alone, ADOT officers have seized 686 pounds of marijuana, 21 pounds of methamphetamine and 53 pounds of cocaine since 2014.The K-9s, both of the Belgian Malinois breed, are trained to detect illegal drugs and human cargo. From their bases in Ehrenberg and Sanders, the units work at interstate ports of entry along the California and New Mexico state lines. The pilot program to obtain and train both K-9s cost $29,000. Officers with ADOT’s Enforcement and Compliance Division also investigate fraud involving driver licenses and vehicle titles and assist other law enforcement agencies when requested.

Congressman Paul Gosar is Demanding Answers: I joined my colleagues in the House Oversight Committee and House Judiciary Committee joint hearing to shine light on the FBI and DOJ’s handling of two of the most sensitive investigations in the history of our country. There are still many more questions that need to be addressed. I will continue to fight with the last full measure of my efforts to make sure that the American people get the answers they deserve.Click here to read more

Congresswoman Martha McSally: Just three days after Independence Day, Captain Juston Doherty passed away while on Army National Guard training orders at Papago Park Military Reservation. Captain Doherty was the epitome of what makes America great. He received the Bronze Star for his service in Iraq and Afghanistan and earned the Medal of Valor during his time as a firefighter. Airman Jason Whitmire, Captain Doherty’s step-son, was denied emergency leave by the U.S. Navy to attend his step-father’s funeral. Although Airman Whitmire lived with Captain Doherty for most of his childhood, he was denied emergency leave because their relationship was not listed on a next-of-kin form. Acting immediately, I led Members of the Arizona Congressional Delegation and sent a letter to the Secretary of the Navy, and personally called the Under Secretary of the Navy, asserting that a clerical error should not prevent Airman Whitmire from attending his step-father’s funeral. One day later, Airman Whitmire was granted emergency leave, and was able to honor the man who raised him.

Secretary of State candidate Steve Gaynor: This week we launched a new digital ad entitled “Awesome.”The spot features footage of Secretary Reagan cheering her SeeTheMoney.com website for being so “awesome” despite the fact that the project was $1 million over budget, two years behind schedule, and displays incorrect data. This website is just one of the many failures Michele Reagan has had while in office. There is nothing ‘awesome’ about how poorly Reagan led this project and how much money she wasted. The Secretary of State needs to be a strong leader who will run the office more like a business.

CD1 Steve Smith, the #1 ranked conservative State Senator in the Arizona Legislature by various issue advocacy organizations, is the prime beneficiary of a new poll released yesterday out of Arizona’s 1st Congressional district. Fielded July 15th - July 16th and facilitated with a mix of interactive voice response polling and live polling, the findings show Smith with 27.2%, Wendy Rogers with 23.2%, Tiffany Shedd with 15%, and an undecided voting population of 34.6%. “Today’s polling indicates that our widespread coalition building, consistent barnstorming, and ability to articulate the Constitutional conservative message is on full display,” responded Smith to news of the poll, adding “This campaign’s outreach is unprecedented and unrelenting. Our base of support remains strong in the South, and we’re constantly creating new inroads in the North. I’m proud to be leading the pack for the Republican nomination, and our team will not stop until the people of this district get the quality representation they deserve in Congress.” Smith’s candidacy continues to build a growing list of support. CD1 candidate Wendy Rogers: I’ve got a new video ad - check it out. OK, now the hard part- let’s get this ad out so people can see it. People have to hear how Democrat Tom O’Halleran has been voting with Nancy Pelosi for the radical left-wing agenda. Sure, he pretends to be a moderate while in Arizona. But just like so many do, when they get to DC, they go native. They become part of the Swamp. For Tom O’Halleran, one term was enough- heck, one term was too many! In just one term, he has managed to vote for Obamacare, Planned Parenthood, gun control, and against tax reform and regulatory reform. That’s a horrible record for six terms. But he managed to accomplish all that in just one. That’s why I need to get this ad out- it educates the voters of our district as to why this guy needs to go, and why I will do better. Will you help me? I’d love to get this particular ad out on Facebook and a similar one on TV and radio. Just to get one ad on the Rush Limbaugh Show, 790 AM KNST in Tuscon costs $90. To get one ad on 550 KFYI in Phoenix runs $120…. And that’s just one! Will you help me by sponsoring one ad for $120 (Phoenix), or $90 (Tuscon)? Or sponsor an ad for one day on Facebook for $50, or on TV for $250? We have the right message, and I am the right candidate. Let’s get the word out! America First.
