Congresswoman Debbie Lesko reports several visitors from her district in Washington this past week. “It was wonderful to meet the McBane family from Peoria, Loris from Surprise, and the Guerrero's of Goodyear,” she said. See www.Lesko.House.Gov. to arrange a visit.

Opinions expressed by readers are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Briefs does NOT endorse pre-primary candidates. Comments running over 400 words are subject to editing. - ft.

Activist Ron Ludders: Over the past week an article appeared in the Briefs indicating the Steve Gaynor Campaign had an unpaid debt to a signature gathering company. We wish all to know that that debt has now been satisfied. Editor’s Note: I have checked Briefs back to late June, and do not find a posting referencing an unpaid bill. -ft

Activist Nancy Russell Plenchner: After hours of watching disgusting FBI agent Peter Strzok's Congressional Hearing, I have to believe that President Trump is probably chomping at the bit to declassify critical FBI and Justice Department documents agency officials will not produce.  But what a sad state of affairs that the Congress of the United States of America has become so impotent that a lowly FBI agent can tell them individually and collectively to go fly a kite and smirk while he is doing so. Congress appears to be spineless and totally unable to stop the mess Obama and gang made specifically at the FBI and Justice Department.  Again the press and political commentators seem to forget or ignore what really happened in 2008.  Upon taking office it was President Obama, his masters and key players within the White House whose first action was to appoint political Czars to the top of EACH AND EVERY Federal Agency.  Their role, to politically weaponize everything from the FBI to the IRS resulting in a culture that took root over eight years and refuses to be weeded out today.  We call it the Swamp and it exists like a cancer within our Federal Government. Without the ability to unmask and prosecute individuals within those tainted bureaucracies nothing will change in DC and whistle blowers critical to unmasking the swamp creatures will remain fearful of coming forward.  President Trump must declassify all documents that FBI and Justice will not release to break the DC log jamb.

Tom Morrissey, Past Chairman AZ GOP: So our Congress has been asking for ALL documents from the Department of Justice regarding the FISA surveillance warrants which were applied for under the leadership and signature of Deputy Director Rod Rosenstein in concert with certain "rogue" elements of the FBI.  As of this writing, the request of Congress has all but been ignored, by the deputy director and federal agents. What we are witnessing, at this point in time, is the power of the Deep State and the frustration of the American people caused by the violation of their trust in certain parts of our government. I am watching and listening to the statements being made by Speaker of the House Paul Ryan saying that he "does not support the impeachment of Rod Rosenstein". If anyone doubts the power of the Deep State, look no further than Speaker Ryan's comments.  I am not accusing him of being Deep State, but I am commenting on the pressure that could be being brought on him by them.

When I was doing research for "The Way Of The Shadow Wolves" I spoke several times with a retired high ranking member of the CIA who told me story after story about the corruption which has been, and is still on-going in our government, at many levels, despite the attempts by the Trump Administration to expose, and end it. When I was a federal law enforcement officer there was never a time when I witnessed anyone with whom I worked, ever, in any way disrespect the will of the people by disrespecting a Congressional request.  When we were asked a question by a member of Congress or the Senate, we responded at break-neck speed.  As we should have.  But my oh my how things and times have now changed.Keep your eyes open and your ears to the ground folks and remember that everyone to whom I refer, work for us.  Not vice versa.   Nothing will change until WE ALL realize and recognize this.

Activist Karen Shaff: Most of us have seen the horrific way that Whoopi Goldberg treated Judge Jeanine Pirro on The View. For those of you who are not on social media such as Twitter and Facebook you may not be aware of how the Kelli Ward campaign, including the candidate herself, attack Joe Arpaio for deciding to run for Jeff Flake’s seat. The constant attacks by her and her followers are downright juvenile and embarrassing. They state that Arpaio is in this race to split the conservative vote and ensure that Martha McSally is elected. They also constantly attack the man’s age stating that he is too old to run for office. I’ve met with Arpaio and understand clearly why he is running. He was with President Trump from day one - unlike any other candidate in this Senate race. He wants to serve one term, support the President’s agenda and represent the people of Arizona. If someone supports Arpaio (real people), people using fake names relentlessly attack them on social media. You would think a candidate running for a U.S. Senate seat would disown such behavior but Ward and her husband embrace it! Trump ran against 17 others and Debbie Lesko ran against 12 others and we never heard the candidates insisting someone drop out of the race. If Ward is such a weak candidate after running for a year and a half and is so worried about Joe Arpaio being in the race maybe she shouldn’t be running in the first place!

Activist Sean Carson: Phillip Woolbright for Justice of the Peace.  He is not afraid to clean the swamp.  I have known about Woolbright for years.  He is a quality leader, volunteer, and always in service to the love of his community.  The corrupt attack him and he bites back.  He has done so much for our tax dollars in the courts and has so much to offer!!  Firsthand experience as a Judge and the best ideas that help our community.  That makes him best qualified.  He is a true conservative republican and a government watchdog.

Activist Edith Shock: The Fountain Hills Republican Club has worked to schedule every Republican candidate that will be on the primary ballot so that voters have the opportunity to hear each person’s stance regarding the office they are vying to hold. The office of Secretary of State is one of great importance because the person that holds that office is the person to step into the Governor’s office as the State does not have a Lt. Governor. I was especially eager to meet and hear candidate Steve Gaynor who is opposing the incumbent Secretary of State Michele Reagan. Unfortunately Mr. Gaynor cancelled his appearance at the last minute claiming a scheduling problem. Reading Mr. Gaynor’s web page I was disappointed to find out that he is no longer a businessman in Arizona, only has a printing business in California. He has no political experience, and his site features six Arizona Republic and one New York Times headlines slamming Michele Reagan for various reasons. A bit more research disclosed he has financially supported our current Senator Jeff Flake, Ted Lieu and Steny Hoyer. He also contributed to a PAC in support of Krysten Sinema and Tom O’Halleran. Michele has brought the office of Secretary of State into the 21st century by simplifying procedures using digital methods that make doing business much more efficient. She has a proven record of dedicated service to the people of Arizona. Her work in Arizona has earned her national recognition and status as well. Seems her opponent will have a very long learning curve to even come close to the work Michele Reagan has accomplished.

Bruce M Piepho, PC/SC Cochise county:  I am responding to Frosty Taylor - that you saw fit to editorialize in the 7/25/2018 Briefs regarding my withdrawal of a speaking opportunity for Dr. Bob Branch. I find the 7/25/2018 reference to me very disrespect full and insulting.  There wasn't any swamp water.  The smell was from Branch hurling unwarranted insults and name calling before I was able to explain to him exactly how the fairness issue would be addressed.  If he had stopped his bully tactics long enough, he would have found out he would have available time to respond to anything Jennifer Reynolds had to say before the debate started. It was Dr. Bob Branch's insults, name calling and bully tactics that caused my withdrawal of his invitation. After the meeting I asked "Did you detect any positive reference to the Riggs campaign in Jennifer Reynolds' presentation?" to a selected few who I could count on providing a truthful honest answer.  NO was the answer. In May and June I sent you responses to Dr. Bob Branch's postings.  You held them and when I inquired - you asked, if I wanted to reconsider.  I dropped it as the pursuit of truth about Dr. Bob Branch was unworthy. Frosty, your editorial comments about my withdrawal of a debate opportunity for Supt of Public Instruction candidate Dr Robert Branch is unworthy of you. Perhaps you should educate yourself on Jen's excellent information! Some highlights of her presentation are:

·         Why is home schooling so popular?

It is fortunate for Arizona to have the Mommy Lobby voice. Editor’s Note: There is no doubt Reynolds provides a valuable service as a Mommy lobbyist. The concern of callers was the fact that Reynolds, who is also Riggs campaigner, was scheduled to speak before the debate between Branch/Riggs. As a courtesy, I offered you the option of withdrawing your May or June letter. – ft

Bruce M Piepho PC/SC Cochise county:  I agree 1,000 percent with LD22 Senate candidate Clair Van Steenwyk's Briefs post on 7/24/2018. We need U.S Constitution defenders not political expediters in our Arizona Senate and House.  In LD14 we were unfortunate to have two representatives, Gowan (Speaker of the House) and Stevens voting in favor of the 2016 National Popular Vote compact.  Gowan is running for the AZ Senate and will be defeated, if I can help it. Clair is correct that the founders wanted to keep out democracy anarchy over the minority and the tyranny of monarchy and oligarchy at the other extreme.  America is as close to an oligarchy then at anytime in our history.  RINOS and progressive socialist liberal democrats all work to keep us as their tax donor subjects to wrongful socialistic spending. The NPV compact is just a work around to negate the Electoral College. Just think, if the NPV was in force our votes for Trump would not count as the Electoral College voters under the NPV would have been bound to vote for Hillary.  Yes Clair was correct - Hillary would be POTUS and America ready to be destroyed.

I appeal to all voters in Arizona to research and expose those politicians swinging in the political winds focusing only on election victories.  My question to all voters in the Legislative Districts with  2016 representative who voted for NPV and now running for reelection - will you defend the constitution? Twenty Republicans voted for NPV in 2016 with a total disregard for the system set up by our Founders a to protect all of us from Majority rule and would take from us the Republican Form of Government we’re guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution. The NPV would effectively neutralize the will of states in the minority.Check out the Constantin Querard, impact on NPV at: Did CQ spread some money around? Voters do your research and follow the money. Find out the Republicans who voted for the NPV at:

Secretary of State candidate Steve Gaynor: Yesterday, the Arizona Republic disclosed "a new report [that] seeks to explain what led to unprecedented lines at the polls in Maricopa County [for the Presidential Preference Election on March 22, 2016], and to quantify the number of voters harmed as a result." Some quotes from the article:

    · “[The] report alleges that (former Maricopa County Recorder) Purcell — who apologized for the episode in 2016 — was made a 'scapegoat' for Reagan and other GOP officials who played a role in the funding decision.

     · "While the county administers its own elections, Mason (the author of the report) contends Reagan's office should bear the 'primary blame' for the botched election."'As the chief elections officer of the state, Michele Reagan has the responsibility to make sure all the counties are able to succeed in delivering fair elections to the voters,' Mason wrote. 'She knew the election was underfunded.' See: report-less-funding-caused-lines-maricopa-county-polls-2016-adrian-fontes, michele-reagan

Chandler City Council candidate Rene Lopez: Early voting begins in SEVEN days! If you’re planning to vote early or by mail in this election, I would be honored to have your vote for Chandler City Council. In my first term on the City Council, I helped make some major accomplishments:

     · Supported massive business expansion projects like those seen at Rogers Corp., Orbital ATK, and Intel

     · Lowered the City portion of the property tax EVERY YEAR

     · Lowered the City operating budget this year by 6.3%

Chandler is leading the way when it comes to efficient government and I want to see this trend continue over the next four years, and that’s why I’d appreciate your vote. So, remember next week to be on the lookout for your mail-in ballot, and if you haven’t registered to vote yet, there’s still time! To register, or to update your registration, do so here before the July 30 deadline

CD1 candidate Wendy Rogers: See

ICYMI; Listen-To-Wendy-Rogers-On-Tucson’s-Morning-News-On-104-1-KQTH/

Supt of Public Instruction candidate Frank Riggs: Our $21 TRILLION national debt is as great - if not greater - a threat to our Constitutional Republic and the security and prosperity of future generations than any foreign adversary. It represents the collective failure of presidential administrations and Congresses of both parties. Those of us in education leadership are trying to create a better and brighter future for young students. Meanwhile, the politicians in DC continue to run-up deficits and the national debt that will burden and jeopardize our grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren! It's obscene and immoral. As a member of Congress, I helped balance the federal budget for the first - and I pray not the last - time in our lifetimes:…/looking-back-20-years-19… I ran for Congress on a promise to help balance the federal budget and kept my promise. Experience counts.

Congressman Biggs endorses Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House

Congresswoman Debbie Lesko: This week, I voted on two resolutions important to our district. We live in a border state, so Arizonans know how important it is to enforce our immigration laws and support the brave men and women of Immigration And Customs Enforcement (ICE). I cosponsored and voted for H.Res.990 to reaffirm my support for the officers and personnel who carry out the important mission of ICE. This resolution passed, but the majority of Democrats ignored this vote. I also voted in support of H.Con.Res.119 which expressed Congress' disapproval for a carbon tax because it would be detrimental to our economy. Carbon taxes are effectively tax increases on those who can least afford it. If a carbon tax was imposed, it would lead to increased electricity and energy rates which would be felt by all. Our economy has been surging due to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, and we should not hamper this growth with unnecessary taxes. This resolution also passed the House.

Congresswoman Debbie Lesko: Arizonans who drive on Interstate 17 know how frequently accidents north of the Valley can close down the highway and leave motorists stranded for hours. I'm requesting U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao to carefully consider funding for much-needed improvements to I-17. Read my letter here.

U.S. Representative Paul A. Gosar and Yavapai County Supervisor Randy Garrison testified on the importance of the bipartisan Cottonwood Land Exchange Act in the House Committee on Natural Resources Subcommittee on Federal Lands.)

Two Gosar Sponsored Bills Unanimously Pass House Resources Committee: Yesterday, the House Committee on Natural Resources unanimously passed two bipartisan bills sponsored by Gosar, D.D.S H.R. 6146, the Cottonwood Land Exchange Act and H.R. 5556, the Environmental Compliance Cost Transparency Act. H.R 6146 , is bipartisan legislation that authorizes the conveyance of 80 acres of Coconino National Forest land to Yavapai County, Arizona in exchange for 369 acres of County land that will be conveyed to the U.S. Forest Service. Gosar stated, “The bipartisan Cottonwood Land Exchange consolidates multiple checkerboards of land at the request of local stakeholders. After many years of collaboration with Yavapai County officials, community leaders, students, parents and the Forest Service, we have found a common sense, locally-driven solution that allows for significant improvements at a high-traffic county park and makes the most efficient use of our land for the benefit of the people of Arizona. H.R. 6146 is good for the County, good for the Forest Service, good for local species and good for families that like parks. I am extremely grateful to Yavapai Supervisor Randy Garrison for making the trip to testify on the bill yesterday and can’t thank the County enough for all their help with this legislation. I look forward to seeing this H.R. 6146 on the House floor.” H.R. 6146 text HERE. Land map HERE. Cosponsors include: CD7 Ruben Gallego, CD8 Debbie Lesko, CD6 David Schweikert , CD9 Kyrsten Sinema and CD1 Tom O’Halleran.

HR 5556, Environmental Compliance Cost Transparency Act requires federal agencies active in the wholesale power business to disclose the costs of environmental compliance to their customers.“Power customers deserve to be taken out of the dark when it comes to costly environmental laws and policies,” said Gosar. “Right now, in the Pacific Northwest, 30% of the rates are estimated to be related to environmental costs. In Arizona, the Glen Canyon Dam flows are estimated to cost customers up to $50 million annually due to foregone power. More transparency in relation to costs is always a good thing.  I’m pleased to see H.R. 5556 pass Committee today with strong bipartisan support.” HR 5556, Environmental Compliance Cost Transparency Act  requires the agencies, known as the Power Marketing Administrations (PMAs), responsible for marketing and delivering power from federal projects like the Hoover Dam, to report to power customers the direct and indirect costs associated with any Federal environmental laws impacting the conservation of fish and wildlife in their monthly billing statements. Direct costs associated with compliance include costs related to environmental studies, capital, operations, maintenance, and staffing. Indirect costs would include forgone generation and replacement power costs. Congressman Gosar’s legislation does not repeal or change a single environmental law; it simply requires much needed transparency that is long overdue. Text HERE. The bill has 16 original bipartisan cosponsors including Arizona CD5 Andy Biggs. The Environmental Compliance Cost Transparency Act is endorsed by the Grand Canyon State Electric Cooperative Association, the Irrigation and Electrical Districts Association of Arizona and the Colorado River Energy Distributors Association.

Congressman Biggs Votes to Supports ICE Officers: “ICE agents daily put their lives on the line in protection of Americans around the country. Congress must give them the resources they require to do their jobs, instead of partisan attacks from Democrats. I am grateful for these men and women who help maintain the security of Americans.”

Krebs is in charge of the NPPD, which works to protect and enhance our nation’s physical and cyberspace security. I asked what the NPPD had learned from the reported hack into an Arizona voter registration system in 2016. For years, foreign adversaries, like Russia, have been trying to undermine America’s democratic institutions and attack critical infrastructure. Click HERE to watch our full exchange.

Gov Doug Ducey: To help reduce smuggling Arizona Department of Transportation officers at commercial ports of entry in eastern and western Arizona are using the agency’s first K-9 units. Between December and May, the two K-9 units, based at the Interstate 10 Ehrenberg Port of Entry near California and the Interstate 40 Sanders Port of Entry near New Mexico, have helped officers seize in excess of 350 pounds of marijuana, 600 vials of hash oil and $90,000 in illicit bulk currency. At the I-40 Topock Port of Entry alone, ADOT officers have seized 686 pounds of marijuana, 21 pounds of methamphetamine and 53 pounds of cocaine since 2014.The K-9s, both of the Belgian Malinois breed, are trained to detect illegal drugs and human cargo. From their bases in Ehrenberg and Sanders, the units work at interstate ports of entry along the California and New Mexico state lines. The pilot program to obtain and train both K-9s cost $29,000. Officers with ADOT’s Enforcement and Compliance Division also investigate fraud involving driver licenses and vehicle titles and assist other law enforcement agencies when requested.

Congressman Paul Gosar is Demanding Answers: I joined my colleagues in the House Oversight Committee and House Judiciary Committee joint hearing to shine light on the FBI and DOJ’s handling of two of the most sensitive investigations in the history of our country. There are still many more questions that need to be addressed. I will continue to fight with the last full measure of my efforts to make sure that the American people get the answers they deserve.Click here to read more

Congresswoman Martha McSally: Just three days after Independence Day, Captain Juston Doherty passed away while on Army National Guard training orders at Papago Park Military Reservation. Captain Doherty was the epitome of what makes America great. He received the Bronze Star for his service in Iraq and Afghanistan and earned the Medal of Valor during his time as a firefighter. Airman Jason Whitmire, Captain Doherty’s step-son, was denied emergency leave by the U.S. Navy to attend his step-father’s funeral. Although Airman Whitmire lived with Captain Doherty for most of his childhood, he was denied emergency leave because their relationship was not listed on a next-of-kin form. Acting immediately, I led Members of the Arizona Congressional Delegation and sent a letter to the Secretary of the Navy, and personally called the Under Secretary of the Navy, asserting that a clerical error should not prevent Airman Whitmire from attending his step-father’s funeral. One day later, Airman Whitmire was granted emergency leave, and was able to honor the man who raised him.

Secretary of State candidate Steve Gaynor: This week we launched a new digital ad entitled “Awesome.”The spot features footage of Secretary Reagan cheering her website for being so “awesome” despite the fact that the project was $1 million over budget, two years behind schedule, and displays incorrect data. This website is just one of the many failures Michele Reagan has had while in office. There is nothing ‘awesome’ about how poorly Reagan led this project and how much money she wasted. The Secretary of State needs to be a strong leader who will run the office more like a business.

CD1 Steve Smith, the #1 ranked conservative State Senator in the Arizona Legislature by various issue advocacy organizations, is the prime beneficiary of a new poll released yesterday out of Arizona’s 1st Congressional district. Fielded July 15th - July 16th and facilitated with a mix of interactive voice response polling and live polling, the findings show Smith with 27.2%, Wendy Rogers with 23.2%, Tiffany Shedd with 15%, and an undecided voting population of 34.6%. “Today’s polling indicates that our widespread coalition building, consistent barnstorming, and ability to articulate the Constitutional conservative message is on full display,” responded Smith to news of the poll, adding “This campaign’s outreach is unprecedented and unrelenting. Our base of support remains strong in the South, and we’re constantly creating new inroads in the North. I’m proud to be leading the pack for the Republican nomination, and our team will not stop until the people of this district get the quality representation they deserve in Congress.” Smith’s candidacy continues to build a growing list of support. CD1 candidate Wendy Rogers: I’ve got a new video ad - check it out. OK, now the hard part- let’s get this ad out so people can see it. People have to hear how Democrat Tom O’Halleran has been voting with Nancy Pelosi for the radical left-wing agenda. Sure, he pretends to be a moderate while in Arizona. But just like so many do, when they get to DC, they go native. They become part of the Swamp. For Tom O’Halleran, one term was enough- heck, one term was too many! In just one term, he has managed to vote for Obamacare, Planned Parenthood, gun control, and against tax reform and regulatory reform. That’s a horrible record for six terms. But he managed to accomplish all that in just one. That’s why I need to get this ad out- it educates the voters of our district as to why this guy needs to go, and why I will do better. Will you help me? I’d love to get this particular ad out on Facebook and a similar one on TV and radio. Just to get one ad on the Rush Limbaugh Show, 790 AM KNST in Tuscon costs $90. To get one ad on 550 KFYI in Phoenix runs $120…. And that’s just one! Will you help me by sponsoring one ad for $120 (Phoenix), or $90 (Tuscon)? Or sponsor an ad for one day on Facebook for $50, or on TV for $250? We have the right message, and I am the right candidate. Let’s get the word out! America First.
